SUNGURA musician Simba Kasanga Mafaiti has challenged his peers to pursue education as it helps them to shape their careers.
Mafaiti − a founding member of the Harare Municipal Police Band − recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Music Business, Musicology, and Technology from Midlands State University.
He was awarded the prestigious MSU Book Prize, a testament to his dedication and excellence in his field.
“Music industry has always been associated with uneducated people and some of the decisions we make as artists are blamed on lack of education.
“I am happy to be among those artists who decided to pursue education. I feel this helps us to make informed decisions and be able to negotiate good deals for ourselves,” said Mafaiti.
Mafaiti stresses the importance of discipline in the music industry which he believes is also an attribute of education.
“There are a number of things that one can benefit from education and discipline is part of them.
“A number of artists have failed to reach their potential because they fail to unlock some of the steps because they lack the capacity. I believe the future of Zimbabwean music lies in the fusion of talent and education, ” he added.
Mafaiti is set to release a musical video titled ‘Zvikasashamisa havasi Mwari’ which is a celebration of his recent academic and musical achievements.
“I have been working on a number of projects and among them is a musical video that is set to be released very soon
“The video speaks to people who have made it in life despite the challenges they have been facing. It also captures my journey as a musician and what I want to achieve.”
