MWOS set up a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final clash with Genesis Mangombe’s Triangle after a commanding 3-1 win over Bikita Minerals at Gibbo Stadium yesterday.
Triangle booked their own place with a 2-0 victory over Manica Diamonds on Saturday, setting up a mouth-watering showdown with the ambitious Mashonaland West side.
MWOS struck early and never looked back. Clive Kwangwari put them ahead in the fifth minute, pouncing on a hesitant Bikita defence to fire home the opener.
The rest of the first half lacked rhythm, with Bikita pushing for an equaliser but failing to make their few chances count against a disciplined MWOS backline.
Both sides made double substitutions after the break to shift the tempo. MWOS made theirs count. In the 69th minute, Jeremiah Makangira swung in a precise cross that Arthur Banda buried with a towering header for a 2-0 lead.
Bikita’s fightback flickered briefly when Tadiwanashe Murasiranwa lashed in a stunning goal four minutes later to cut the deficit.
But MWOS quickly snuffed out any hopes of a comeback. Ten minutes from time, Wilson Mensah curled a superb free kick into the top corner to seal the win.
The final whistle confirmed MWOS’s passage to the last four and left Bikita ruing missed chances and loose defending.
“I am deeply hurt with this loss. It adds more misery for me, especially losing again at Gibbo Stadium. But I must say I’m impressed with the effort the boys put in. It just wasn’t our day. We’ll now focus all our energy on the Premiership fight,” said Bikita Minerals coach Wilson Mutekede.
MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa was full of praise for his charges.
“I’m happy with the win and the overall performance. The boys were clinical and utilised their chances well. It’s always a great feeling to win away from home,” he said.
MWOS will now shift focus to the semi-final duel with Triangle, who edged Manica Diamonds 2-0 in Saturday’s other quarter-final.
