Police in Mashonaland East have arrested Filton Kachavi after he was found with 400 kg of beef stashed in his Toyota Probox vehicle.
The meat was found after Kachavi failed to stop at a roadblock in Featherstone, prompting the law enforcement agents to give chase.
In the process, it is reported that Kachavi hit a calf while being chased by the police and stopped.
It is reported that the police searched his car and found 8×50 kg bags stashed with meat.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“On September 13, 2026, Police in Featherstone arrested Filton Kachavi (34) for stock theft following a speed chase,” he said.
“The suspect was driving a Toyota Probox which failed to stop after being signaled by the police near Wadyiwa Wamira Shops, Feartherstone along Harare-Masvingo Road, .
“During the ensuing speed chase, the vehicle turned onto Charter Road before striking a calf, which died on the spot. The collision brought the vehicle to an abrupt halt, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
“Subsequently, eight 50kg bags containing deboned beef were recovered. Investigations by the police established that the meat had been stolen from two complainants in Mvuma.”
The police, working with the community has vowed to leave no stone unturned in the fight to end stock theft across Zimbabwe.
