MWOS EMPLOYEE LOSES US$2K TO CHADONHA SYNDICATE

A MWOS employee from Ngezi allegedly lost more than US$2,000 to a gambling syndicate known as “Chadonha” in Harare on Monday.

Police say Abraham Pambayi, who works at MWOS Betting House, Turf in Ngezi, was shown a bundle of fake United States dollars by a syndicate of robbers.

He was on his way to surrender company cash at the MWOS Betting House headquarters.

According to the report, the incident happened on Africa Day,

At about 0930 hours, Pambayi disembarked from a kombi at Robert Mugabe Square in Harare.

He had boarded the kombi in Turf, Ngezi.

He then walked along Robert Mugabe Way towards the Harare CBD, where he intended to hand over US$1,200 to the MWOS Betting House headquarters.

As he approached Rotten Row Road, Pambayi allegedly met one of the members of the syndicate.

He picked up what appeared to be a bundle of US dollars in front of him.

The two agreed to go to the Kopje area of the city to share the money.

Along the way, they were joined by other men who then forcibly took cash, amounting to US$2,040, which Pambayi had in his jacket.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident.

“We are investigating a plain robbery case. The complainant was tricked and lost a total amount of US$2,040,” said Insp Chakanza.
