AFTER a year-long sabbatical, seasoned rhumba musician Ndux Junior is set to make a return with his 16th studio album, Ukhala Bemgeza, which will be launched in Johannesburg, South Africa, this Saturday.
At the launch event, he will perform alongside several prominent rhumba acts, including M3, Dumezweni Mazilakankatha, Tsheba Boys, Lijin Boys and Amajita eGwamba, among others.
The composer and lead guitar maestro has promised fans a fresh yet familiar Ndux Junior experience.
“The album was recorded at the newly opened TK Studios. We’ll take our fans on a musical journey that evokes the beat we inherited from the legendary Ndux Malax. It’s a hot album, no doubt about that,” said the musician.
The album features six tracks, including Bazalwane, Qoki, Tjidzima Hhuba and Wanted.
Renowned for his bold storytelling and sharp social commentary, Ndux said no topic is off limits when he picks up his pen.
Staying true to his reputation, the album explores themes of gratitude, morality and love, all delivered through his signature rhumba rhythm.
“The title track, Ukhala Bemgeza, speaks about ungrateful people.
“They never say anything good about you, but when you make one mistake, they hold it against you and make noise about it,” he said.
In the song Bazalwane, Ndux addresses the commercialisation of gospel music, criticising how some churches have shifted their focus from preaching the word to chasing financial gain.
To give the album a distinctive touch, Ndux incorporated additional instruments beyond guitars, introducing subtle blends of different genres while preserving the authentic rhumba sound his fans cherish.
The project also benefits from the expertise of respected bassist Obert Vundla, whose contribution adds depth to the overall production.
Despite a brief break from live performances, Ndux assured fans that his band remains intact and ready to take the stage.
“Most of my band members are employed outside music, which sometimes affects our schedule.
“The lack of promoters is also a challenge, but we are ready to do what we do best — entertain our fans,” said the Uthando Luyingozi hit-maker.
Following the South African launch, Ndux Junior will embark on a homecoming tour, performing across Zimbabwe to share his new music with loyal supporters.— @themkhust
