GWANDA South Member of Parliament, Dr Omphile Marupi, who is also the Deputy Minister for Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, will today (Friday) officiate at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Nkomwa–Nkemeletje Disability Centre in Gwanda.

The disability centre will be constructed in the Mapate area of Ward 16. The event coincides with the fifth anniversary of the Nkomwa Foundation Trust, a Matabeleland South-based organisation established in 2000 that advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities.

The Nkomwa–Nkemeletje Disability Centre will serve as a multi-purpose hub, housing an Early Childhood Development centre for children with disabilities, as well as providing practical and vocational training for youths with disabilities. The facility will also offer digital and soft skills development alongside agricultural initiatives such as goat rearing and horticulture projects to promote sustainable livelihoods.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Gwanda Rural District Council, the local community, and the Nkomwa Foundation Trust — a testament to how inclusive development is achievable when communities take ownership.
