Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda has challenged campus radio stations to diversify revenue streams to sustain their operations and effectively serve their audiences.
Speaking at the inaugural annual campus radio broadcasting symposium at Great Zimbabwe University in Masvingo today, Dr Soda emphasised the need to explore diverse funding models for campus radio stations to survive.
He said a station that cannot pay for overheads such as electricity and equipment cannot effectively serve its audience.
Dr Soda urged the radio stations to build partnerships with the corporate sector, development partners and local businesses.
Developing revenue strategies, he said, was key for survival in a crowded media space where audiences were earned.
Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira paid tribute to Great Zimbabwe University campus radio station, praising it for promoting information dissemination in the province.
GZU campus radio was the first out of the existing nine stations to be licensed.
It also scored a first after being the first campus radio station to interview President Mnangagwa live on air.
The symposium is expected to become an annual event.
