THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Tuesday recovered 15,7 kilogrammes of gold worth US$1,56 million, which was stashed in a vehicle, that was to be smuggled out of the country.
Police detectives, who were acting on a tip-off, subsequently arrested three suspects in connection with the case.
The gold has since been taken to Fidelity Gold Refinery in Msasa as investigations continue.
“The ZRP confirms that a tip was received on September 19, 2025 that gold was about to be smuggled out of the country whilst hidden in a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser vehicle,” police said in a statement on X.
“Detectives from CID Minerals, Flora and Fauna Unit tracked the vehicle leading to the arrest of three suspects and the subsequent recovery of 15,7 kilogrammes of gold valued at US$1 568 860.00. The gold has since been taken to Fidelity Gold Refinery, Msasa. Investigations are in progress.”
