THE ruling ZANU PF party continues to honour sacrifices of the Chinhoyi Seven following the erection of a monument at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) in recognition of the seven pioneering freedom fighters of the Second Chimurenga.

President Mnangagwa officially commissioned the monument this morning as the country continues to preserve the legacy of liberation war heroes.

The seven freedom fighters — Cdes Simon Chingozho Nyandoro, Christopher Chatambudza, Godwin Manyerenyere, David Guzuzu, Arthur Maramba, Godfrey Dube and Chubby Savanhu — lost their lives during the Battle of Chinhoyi on April 28, 1966.

The battle signalled the beginning of the armed phase of the Second Chimurenga.

The monument features engraved plaques narrating the history of the liberation struggle and commemorating the sacrifices made by the seven fighters in the pursuit of Zimbabwe’s independence.
