BUZZ around Highlanders has reached fever pitch following fresh claims that Benjani “The Undertaker” Mwaruwari could be eyeing a dramatic return to Barbourfields with none other than Johannes “Tshisa” Ngodzo by his side.
A picture of the two former Warriors and Bosso favourites, snapped in Bulawayo’s Mzilikazi suburb, has set social media ablaze. Fans are already imagining the duo prowling the technical area in black and white, plotting a revival steeped in nostalgia and pedigree.
This comes hot on the heels of reports that flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo is pushing for Mwaruwari to take over as Highlanders head coach. Bosso confirmed last week that they have parted ways with Hendrik Pieter de Jongh, whose contract ends ON 31 December, setting the stage for yet another reshuffle in a year full of turbulence.
Chivayo, who has pledged a massive US$1 million sponsorship package to the club, insists the prospective deal with Mwaruwari would not eat into that fund. Instead, he is said to be handling the arrangement separately, a move that has fuelled more intrigue about the scope of his influence at the Bulawayo giants.
Ngodzo, affectionately known as Tshisa for the heat he brought to midfield battles, has quietly built a solid coaching reputation at Zifa Central Region Division One side Gwanda Pirates, where he served with distinction. His inclusion in the rumoured setup has excited supporters who believe his tactical brain and deep Bosso DNA could complement Benjani’s star power.
While official word remains tightly guarded, the whispers grow louder with each passing hour. Bosso fans, long starved of silverware, sense a potentially explosive partnership brewing.
For now, the picture may have spoken louder than any press statement.
