SUNGURA musician Mark Ngwazi has stepped beyond his comfort zone by embracing collaborations that fuse different musical styles.

Ngwazi was featured on a campaign song with Winky D, Ammara Brown, and Madlela Skhobokhobo titled “Strong Enough.”

It is also referred to as “Love Shouldn’t Hurt”.

The song brings together Ngwazi’s sungura style with Winky D’s dancehall flair, Ammara Brown’s Afro-pop style and Madlela’s artistic input.

Ngwazi was also featured on “Hoko” remix, a song by Calvin Mangena.

The song, which was released on Monday, blended sungura, dancehall, and Afro-pop.

Ngwazi said his decision to collaborate across genres is driven by a desire to bridge musical divides and expand listenership.

“Doing a collaboration with artists who specialise in a different genre helps unite fans.

“Some fans don’t listen to other genres, so this helps them understand genres like sungura.

“The reason why I have managed to do collaborations with other artists is because I am flexible when it comes to working with other musicians.

“Most artists think it’s hard to explore other genres like jazz, country music, gospel and others, but I believe anyone can do it.”

Last year, Tamy Moyo featured him on the remix of her song “Husiku Hwese Remix.”

“This particular collaboration with Mark has opened me up to a new and wider audience of supporters,” said Tamy.

“I’ve come to really appreciate sungura in the music space and how it resonates with us as a people and nation.

“I’m so grateful to Mark Ngwazi for joining me on stage and even more so for agreeing to do the collaboration.

“I trust that I will also get to share the stage with him at his events and interact with his fans as well, something I really look forward to.

“I’ve learnt a lot from the collaboration and the power of collaborating with other skilled musicians.”
