NINE people died early this morning when a commuter ominibus plunged into Ruti Dam in Buhera.

The vehicle had 12 passengers, and three managed to swim out of the dam.

Manicaland Provincial Civil Protection Committee chairman, Mr John Misi confirmed the tragedy.

“The commuter ominbus was stationary loading passengers and goods. It suddenly moved on its own due to suspected loss of brakes. The driver of the vehicle was outside loading luggage. Twelve people were on board. Nine drowned and three managed to escape. The nine bodies were taken to Murambinda Mission Hospital for post-mortem,” said Mr Misi.
