NINE people, who were arrested for allegedly attacking municipal police officers during the ongoing Chenesa Harare operation, have been remanded in custody.
Regis Karavhina (43), Mduhuduzi Ndlovu (27), Blessed Chinhama (34), Tinotenda Mulheki (24), Smart Mafuku (30), Tenda Puwai (30), John Mahangu (24), Tsungirai Sanito (19) and Ezra Besamu (17), appeared before magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai.
They were remanded in custody to today for a bail application.
Prosecutor Chipo Muvhamba represented the State.
The State alleges that on Saturday, at around 2.45pm, Harare Municipal Police officers were conducting an operation, targeting vendors operating outside designated trading areas.
The operation was being conducted at the corner of First Street and Speke Avenue when the accused allegedly incited other vendors to resist the enforcement exercise.
They allegedly began throwing stones at municipal police officers, resulting in damage to a parked Nissan Almera, belonging to the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ).
The vehicle, which was parked at the intersection of Speke Avenue and First Street, sustained damage to its fender valued at US$200.
The complainants are three Harare City Council municipal police officers who were part of the enforcement team.
The officers managed to apprehend the gang before taking them to Harare Central Police Station, where a report was filed.
