South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha co-hosted the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in Nigeria and looked exquisite in looks by top designers.
Mbatha, for her first time, hosting the top awards in films and television, enlisted one of Nigeria’s most in-demand stylists, Dahmola.
Dahmola has worked with top Nigerian celebrities such as musician Simi, actress Sharon Ooja, presenter Toke Makinwa and styled Mzansi’s very own Bonang Matheba.
Nigeria is known as the fashion capital of Africa, especially when it comes to red carpet events, with personalities known to serve high fashion that can be described as art.
As custom with Nigerian fashion looks, every detail of Mbatha’s appearance was curated to the tee, from Lagos hairline and makeup beat to perfection.
For her first look, the “Shaka iLembe” actress and executive producer wore a bespoke couture dress by the renowned fashion designer VeeKee James, with 30 000 thousands of strip lashes.
For her second look, Mbatha turned to House of Dova for sustainable fashion, something she is passionate about.
The look was made up of CDs and computer, and keyboard pieces.
The fashion house explained on Instagram the inspiration behind the sustainable couture look.
“In a world of advanced technology, where the line between real life and AI grows thinner, this dress is an ode to technology of new and old as seen in details; fused with hand-beaded structures, capacitors, panels, wiring, and circuit boards . . .”
Her third look by TUBO, an award-winning cross-continental womenswear brand rooted in Lagos, Nigeria, gave a masterclass in motion art in fashion.
The blue custom look was embellished by hand in TUBO’s studio and has a mechanised butterfly detailing that takes the spotlight.
Her fourth look was a red bombshell that looked like a visual representation of a bleeding heart.
EmagineBybukola, in an Instagram post, shed light on the design process of the bestopke dress.
“What began as an exploration of anatomy through thread, paint, and texture has become a reflection of something deeper: the intricacy of creation itself.”
Her closing look was from the House of Marvee and left jaws on the floor.
“A thermal imprint of the human body, imagined through the eyes of a snake,” shared the fashion house.
Fashion lovers have praised Mbatha’s looks with her landing on several Best Dressed lists. — IOL
