FORMER champions FC Platinum are targeting to end a three-match winless run against struggling CAPS United in a tricky Castle Lager Premier League match at Mandava on Saturday.
FC Platinum were unbeaten for the opening 22 matches but suffered a crushing defeat at home to ambitious Scottland in the opening match of the season.
Tonderai Ndiraya’s Scottland cruised to a 5-2 victory.
It was the first time that Norman Mapeza had conceded as many goals in a single match since becoming a coach.
Having been stopped by Scottland at the back of a four-match winning streak, FC Platinum have now failed to win a match so far in August.
They lost to the Premiership newcomers Triangle (0-2 away) and also a penalty shootout defeat at home to Manica Diamonds in the opening round of the Chibuku Super Cup.
Last Sunday’s defeat at Gibbo against Triangle left FC Platinum with some catching up to do in the Castle Lager Premiership title race currently led by reigning champions, Simba Bhora and Scottland.
With just nine matches remaining, any further losses will complicate their chances of reclaiming the title they last won in 2022.
In the reverse fixture at Rufaro, FC Platinum won 2-1 and they believe they can complete a double on Saturday.
“This Saturday, the battle returns to Mandava. After edging CAP United 2–1 away, we now defend our ground with purpose and pride.
“The stakes are higher, the crowd louder, and the mission clear. Let’s make Mandava thunder,” said FC Platinum on the social media page.
CAPS United are just one point above the relegation zone following a surprise loss at home to Yadah on Sunday.
Another defeat this weekend might leave them among the bottom four.
