Norton Council orders vendors to vacate illegal sites

Vendors in Norton have received a two-day moratorium from council to vacate undesignated areas

Norton Town Council has ordered vendors and informal traders operating from undesignated areas within the town to vacate the sites by Wednesday.

In a notice, acting public relations and communications officer Mr Leeroy Kaponda said illegal vendors and informal traders were required to remove their structures by the deadline.

“Those who have left their tables or operate outside their allocated vending spaces must return to their designated operating spaces allocated by council,” reads the notice.

The council warned that those who fail to comply will have their structures removed and face enforcement action in terms of council by-laws, with the assistance of law enforcement authorities.

“Failure to comply with this notice will result in the removal of structures and enforcement action in terms of council by-laws, with the assistance of law enforcement authorities,” it said.
