Veteran musician Obediah Matulana continues to prove that with age comes maturity, as his latest album demonstrates a new level of artistry.
With a musical career spanning over 40 years, the Tsholotsho-born artiste has skillfully navigated the evolving music industry, producing work celebrated across the Matabeleland region, South Africa, and Botswana.
His newest album, Skim Sami, was launched in Johannesburg over the weekend, drawing crowds ready to embrace the festive season.
The album features tracks including the title track Skim Sami, UThando Love (75% Kanindo version), Ngizomtholo Omunye, Usathane, Pleasure, Ezulwini, Bazenza Abangcono, AMA 2000, and Indwangu-Gudo.
At the launch, Matulana also gave a platform to upcoming talent such as M3 & The Shwele Brs alongside Emathonjeni Boyz Band.
Speaking from South Africa, Matulana said the album takes listeners on a journey through his musical career while exploring themes of love, generational wealth, and unity.
“The music industry has changed quite a lot from the point I started, and this album is a way of showing how I have managed to adapt to trending genres.
“The launch in South Africa went well, and I’m planning to bring the launch to Zimbabwe, hopefully performing at several festive season events,” said Matulana. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
