Onezwa Mbola had a little surprise tucked into her Spring Day garden tour.
The Eastern Cape culinary creator, known for her peaceful farm videos, homegrown produce and rustic recipes, announced that she is expecting her second child in a video posted on September 1.
And the reveal was almost easy to miss.
“I’m also growing a baby”
The video begins much like many of Onezwa’s garden updates, with her walking through her vegetable beds and showing followers what is growing for the new season.
There are kale, leeks, beetroot, strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, red onions, Swiss chard and cabbages.
Then, almost as an afterthought, she adds: “I’m also growing a baby.”
The video cuts to a viewfinder-style shot of Onezwa showing off her growing baby bump, alongside a tiny pair of pink Minnie Mouse baby booties.
It was a surprisingly understated way to share some very big news.
Onezwa captioned the post: “Happy Spring Day. Here’s to new beginnings and more growing.”

Naturally, the tiny pink booties caught plenty of attention.
While Onezwa has not publicly confirmed that she is expecting a baby girl, the choice of pink Minnie Mouse footwear has already given followers something to speculate about.
The announcement also fits neatly into the content Onezwa has built her following around.
Her videos often centre on growing food, cooking from scratch and life on her Eastern Cape farm, making the line about “growing a baby” an especially fitting addition to the garden tour.

A new chapter for the culinary creator
The pregnancy announcement comes during an already significant year for Onezwa.
In May, she released her debut cookbook, “A Food Love Story”, published by Jonathan Ball Publishers.
The cookbook draws on her relationship with food, family and her late mother, as well as the traditional and rustic dishes that have become part of her storytelling.
Onezwa has previously spoken about wanting to preserve those recipes and memories for her seven-year-old son, who also occasionally features in her farm content.
Now, there is another little member of the family on the way.
