The National Gallery of Zimbabwe is set to host an evening of opera as the Friends of the Gallery (FOG), in partnership with the Festival of Song Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Association of Choral and Music Arts (ZACMA), presents “A Night of Timeless Arias and Refined Voices”.
Set for October 11, the event is an immersive experience that will bring together world-class performers, innovative productions, and a diverse audience of opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
In a statement Simbarashe Makavanaga, the ZACMA representative said : “Opera, as an art form, has rich and diverse history that spans centuries and continents.
From its origins in ancient Greece to its evolution in modern times, opera has been shaped by various cultural, social and artistic influences.
“Today opera continues to thrive, with a global community of artists, audiences, and institutions that celebrate its unique blend of music, drama and spectacle,” he said.
“The Friends of the Gallery has had a very successful year; after facilitating two Arts and Crafts Fairs, and the NGZ’s Birthday celebration, we have come together with the Festival of Song to bring the operatic discipline into the Gallery” said Victor Nyakauru, the Chairman of the FOG.
Showcasing a wide range of operatic styles and traditions, from classical masterpieces to the audiences, the Black Tie event aims on fostering a deeper appreciation for the art form and its global significance.
