THE owner of Scorpion Car Sale, whose four Belgian Malinois dogs allegedly escaped from his premises and fatally attacked a passer-by, has been denied bail.
Gilbert Rumbwere (44) is facing a charge of culpable homicide following the death of Takudzwa Malcom Muzavazi.
He was allegedly attacked by the dogs at the company’s premises in Harare.
Rumbwere appeared before Mbare Regional Magistrate Noel Mupeiwa, who denied him bail.
He was remanded to October 15 pending finalisation of investigations.
Prosecutor Allen Chifokoyo alleged that on September 24, at around 8 pm, Rumbwere failed to properly secure his premises at the corner of Willowvale Road and Harare Drive.
The court heard that as a result, four Belgian Malinois escaped from the premises and attacked Muzavazi, a Warren Park resident.
It is alleged that Muzavazi sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The State alleges that Rumbwere had a duty to properly secure the premises and restrain the dogs, but failed to do so.
Following investigations into the incident, police arrested Rumbwere, leading to his appearance in court.
The State is alleging that his failure to secure the premises and properly restrain the dogs resulted in Muzavazi’s death.
