Parliament has officially launched the Committee for the Future, which is tasked with long-term planning within parliamentary processes.
The Committee was launched by Speaker of Parliament Advocate Mudenda, with the Deputy President of the Senate, Retired Lieutenant General Mike Nyambuya, standing as the inaugural Chairman.
“In recognition of the rapidly evolving global landscape shaped by technological, environmental and socio-economic transformations, the Parliament of Zimbabwe hereby establishes the Committee of the Future as a standing committee mandated to embed foresight, innovation and long-term strategic planning within parliamentary processes.
“The Committee of the Future should be established as a standing, cross-sectoral parliamentary committee reporting directly to the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (CSRO),” reads part of a statement from Parliament.
The Committee shall act in accordance with Section 119 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which mandates Parliament to protect the Constitution and promote good governance and Section 13, which calls for inclusive, people-centred development aligned with Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Committee will also be a catalyst for institutional transformation that anticipates emerging challenges and harnesses future opportunities, advancing excellence, accountability and innovation through strategic foresight, inclusive governance and evidence-based leadership.
The move will shape Zimbabwe’s social, economic, technological and environmental landscape over the next 10 to 30 years, ensuring proactive rather than reactive governance.
