Zanu-PF workers yesterday celebrated the party’s historic victory in the July 31 harmonised elections. The workers gathered at the party’s headquarters to welcome President Mugabe when he came to address the party’s first Politburo meeting after the July 31 emphatic victory.
The mood was euphoric as the workers sang revolutionary songs waiting for the President and First Secretary.
Popular was Cde Chinx Chingaira’s song “Chikopoko” and Mbare Chimurenga Choir’s “VaMugabe Muri Nhume”.
Incoming Buhera South National Assembly member Cde Joseph Chinotimba left people in stitches when he dramatised the party’s election theme “Bhora Mugedhi”.
“KuBuhera taiti bhora kuna Chinotimba, Chinotimba kuna Mandipaka, Mandipaka dzosera kuna Chinotimba, Chinotimba bhora kumberi kuna Mugabe — go bhora!” he said, to applause from party members.
President Mugabe arrived to jubilant singing and ululation by the party workers.
The workers burst into song and dance as the President walked through the doors heading for the elevators on his way to his offices.
He stopped to address the joyous staff whom he thanked for playing a vital role in the party’s stunning victory.
He said the victory was for the party and its members who worked tirelessly to defend the country from the jaws of imperialism.
“Handisi ndoga ndakahwina, takawanda pamusana pekubatana makatitsigira… Taishanda takazvipira pasina mubairo. Togadzira mashandiro yave nhamo yedu tese pakushanda.”
Newly-elected members of the National Assembly also received rousing welcomes from the staff, in the form of slogans, songs, dance and embraces.
Some of the legislators who also received the sound welcome from the workers included Cdes Webster Shamu, Saviour Kasukuwere, Francis Nhema, Nicholas Goche and Tendai Savanhu.
Zanu-PF won 160 seats in the National Assembly with its Presidential candidate President Mugabe winning 61 percent of the total vote cast.
Zanu-PF surpassed the two thirds majority required to pass and amend laws in Parliament. Its total membership in the National Assembly increases to 197 with the addition of those elected through proportional representation and the women’s quota.
This will ensure smooth sailing and implementing of laws in the August House.
