H-METRO senior reporter Arron Nyamayaro, who is also a pastor, has introduced pre-marital counseling sessions which are starting to garner significant interest among parents in his community.
Swapping his reporter’s pen for a role as a counselor, Nyamayaro is addressing youth behaviour and preparing aspiring couples for the journey of marriage.
Among the participants have been university and college students and youths from various church denominations.
Nyamayaro expressed his commitment to combating issues like early marriages, abortions, divorces and domestic violence.
“I was impressed by the turnout, especially from parents who sent their children to the session,” Nyamayaro noted.
He pointed out that many participants, particularly young women, had misconceptions about marriage, which he aims to correct.
As a father and a minister of the word, Nyamayaro has rooted his counseling in Biblical teachings.
He highlighted the significance of personal, family and national identity, the value of preserving cultural traditions and the importance of understanding the difference between lobola (bride price) and a wedding ceremony.
He also discussed the dangers of engaging in criminal activities and the importance of health screenings, such as tests for HIV/AIDS and prostate cancer.
Drawing from his experiences as a journalist, Nyamayaro recognised the need for youth awareness on various issues.
“In our community, we often dress well each day to mask the mental struggles we face,” he said.
“There is a need to cleanse the mind through the word of God, which is why I advocate for regular counseling sessions.
“Your health is your wealth, let us safeguard our children from lustful men salivating to destroy their future.”
He expressed concern over rising domestic violence, early marriages, suicides and abortions.
“One writer said the richest place on earth is the grave.
“We cannot stand by and watch our youth perish when God offers life in abundance to all who have faith in Him,” said Nyamayaro.
