PAZ has urged commuters who work late into the night or engage in late-night activities to avoid boarding private vehicles, warning that doing so could expose them to robbery.
In a statement, the Passengers Association of Zimbabwe said it had noted a worrying trend in which robbers use private vehicles while posing as legitimate ride-hailing operators or pirate taxi drivers before robbing unsuspecting passengers.
PAZ urged commuters to remain vigilant and use trusted and registered transport operators, particularly at night.
“For your safety, please use registered public service vehicles with red numbers on white plates only,” the association said in a statement.
PAZ cited an incident in which a fast-food manager was attacked on Thursday evening in Harare by robbers.
“He was beaten with a hammer and forced to surrender the money that was in his wallet,” the association said.
“The robbers also forced him to reveal his PIN. He was severely injured and dumped at an unknown location.”
