PHD church leader Walter Magaya arrested on rape and fraud charges

WALTER MAGAYA, the founder of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries, was arrested early yesterday on charges of rape and fraud, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

The arrest was conducted in a dawn operation by a police crack team.

In an official statement, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the case was linked to “several reports of rape and fraud.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) church leader Walter Magaya in connection with several reports of rape and fraud,” Commissioner Nyathi stated. “The suspect was arrested early today (yesterday) by a police crack team.”

The terse police announcement provided no further details on the specific nature of the allegations or the number of cases involved.

Magaya is a well-known figure in Zimbabwe and across the region, leading a large Pentecostal congregation with a significant following.

The arrest of a high-profile religious leader on such serious charges is expected to garner significant public attention. Further details are anticipated as the police investigation continues.
