PLANET Kadder Academy is set to elevate its presence in the modelling industry as it takes a bold step to merge all its individual pageants into one grand event.
For the past few years, the Gwanda-based arts organisation has hosted separate pageants for youngsters, but this year, it will bring them together under one platform, segmented into five categories. The merged pageant is scheduled for November 8 at the Gwanda Showgrounds.
Planet Kadder Academy founder Proficience “Kadder” Cadder said the decision to consolidate the pageants follows advice from Little Mr and Miss Africa – Zimbabwe, with whom the academy recently affiliated.
“The Little Mr and Miss Gwanda delegates are divided into five categories; Baby of Gwanda (2–3 years); Little Mr and Miss Gwanda (4–7 years); Mr and Miss Gwanda Junior (8–12 years); Teen Gwanda (13–16 years); and Heritage Gwanda (17–21 years),” she said.
Kadder said beyond showcasing beauty and talent, the pageant aims to raise awareness on key social issues.
“We’re addressing topics such as teenage pregnancies, early child marriages, drug abuse, and gender-based violence through community projects carried out by the contestants,” she said.
This year’s edition is expected to be more refined, with a stronger focus on professionalism in modelling.
“Last year’s event was mainly about identifying potential models for training. This time, we’ve provided pre-event training in public speaking and modelling to ensure our contestants are well-prepared. There will also be a pyjama party for the participants as part of their bonding and confidence-building activities,” said Kadder.
The pageant will feature various segments including Self-Introduction, where models share their backgrounds and aspirations; a Talent Segment covering music, dance, and poetry; as well as Culture Wear, Evening Wear, and Project Presentations, which focus on charity and advocacy initiatives.
“These categories encourage our models to develop social responsibility. We are also grateful to Queen B, a professional makeup artist and hairstylist, for partnering with us. Modelling and beauty go hand in hand, and having a sponsor aligned with our vision shows that we’re moving in the right direction,” Kadder said. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
