A 19-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a schoolgirl.

The Plumtree Magistrates’ Court heard that on September 29, 2025, the victim was on her way home from school when she encountered the offender around 1 PM.

According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, she attempted to run away, but the man chased her, caught up with her, and dragged her into a nearby bush, where he sexually assaulted her.

The victim immediately returned home and informed her mother about the ordeal. Her mother then made a police report, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

In sentencing, the court emphasised that crimes of this nature are grave and must be punished severely to protect minors and deter would-be offenders.

“The rape of minors must be condemned in the strongest terms. Paedophiles have no place in our society and the criminal justice system will mete out the highest possible prison term to paedophiles,” the statement from the NPAZ read.
