A poetry and art showcase titled The Art of Becoming is set to be held in Bulawayo on October 31.

The event organised by WeCreate Africa will feature supporting performances from Casa dell’Armonia, an emerging opera group. The group, comprising four talented singers and led by the charismatic Michael Makhathini, continues to make waves in the city’s arts scene.

Sikhulekile Lethokuhle Mpofu, known by her stage name Lethu, said the event taking place at Alliance Française de Bulawayo aligns with global observances that define October – World Mental Health Day, the International Day of the Girl Child, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She said the poetry spotlight celebrates self-discovery, healing, and personal growth through performance and artistic expression.

“The event aims to explore how self-discovery and healing intersect with identity and empowerment, particularly for young women navigating societal expectations and pressures. Through poetry, music, and visual art, the show will create a safe space to reflect, heal, and celebrate resilience,” Mpofu said.

“Audiences will engage with performances that normalise conversations around mental health, identity, and body positivity, echoing the global messages behind the month’s commemorations.”

Each guest will receive a mini canvas at the start of the show to paint or write what resonates with them. These canvases will later be assembled into a large collage, symbolising connection and collective reflection.

Organisers hope the audience will leave with a deeper sense of self-awareness and empathy, having connected emotionally with stories of healing and empowerment. The audience collage will be displayed at ReCreate or partner spaces as a shared expression of mental wellness, empowerment, and resilience.
