THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Matabeleland North Province has called for heightened public vigilance and strict adherence to the law during the festive season.
The call was made by the Provincial Officer Commanding, Police Commissioner Jealousy Nyabasa, during the launch of the 2025 Festive Season Awareness Campaign in Hwange on Friday.
The launch event featured a march through the Hwange CBD to the bus terminus, where stakeholders, including the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, Zimparks, ZESA, and EMA, addressed the public. Commissioner Nyabasa later led a roadshow, engaging motorists and distributing safety flyers.
Commissioner Nyabasa warned that the season’s increased travel leads to greater risks.
“Criminal activities such as theft, robbery, domestic violence, and drug abuse will increase. Road traffic accidents due to human and mechanical fault cannot be ruled out,” he said.
He particularly cautioned travellers against carrying large sums of cash and advised securing homes before travelling.

“Please observe all rules and regulation. Use mechanically sound motor vehicles. Do not drink and drive,” he said.
He also warned against the dangers of drug abuse and drowning, urging parents to monitor children closely.
To ensure safety, the police will intensify deployments.
“We are going to increase our deployments in all areas… to ensure safety for all. We urge the public to cooperate with the police,” he said.
