President Mnangagwa has commended the University of Zimbabwe’s innovation and research under the heritage-based Education 5.0 model which encourages students to develop ideas that will produce goods and services.
The President, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe and all State universities, said this today while delivering the keynote address after officially commissioning the institution’s Industrial Incubation Centre in Msasa and the Specialist Medical Centre in Avondale.
“Such projects validate the success of the heritage-based Education 5.0 model which continues to position our higher and tertiary education institutions as critical cogs in the ongoing industrialisation, modernisation and development of our environment and economy,” said President Mnangagwa.
“I congratulate the University of Zimbabwe for realising yet another landmark achievement and successfully completing the facilities being commissioned today.”
He said the UZ Industrial Incubation Centre is a commendable initiative.
“The incubation centre is where start-ups shall be developed towards commercialisation and market participation. Ideas are nurtured in the laboratories and workshops, progressing through the Innovation Hub for prototyping, product development and start-up registration,” he said.
“It is impressive that the start-up companies hosted in the industrial incubation centre are student-led, resulting from their final-year projects, research and scholarly work. Under my administration, promising innovations will continue to be granted Innovation Hub status and receive support from Government.
“I am confident that this approach will provide impetus for our young, talented students to develop their ideas into products, goods and services.”
