PRISONS BOSS EMPHASISES THE IMPORTANCE OF DISCPLINE AMONG ZPCS OFFICERS

ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Service Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu has emphasised the importance of discipline, and the respect of family values, among his officers.

He was addressing his officers during an interface meeting titled “Building Strong Officers Through Strong Families.”

“A successful institution is built on the foundation of strong families and a disciplined organisation is sustained by disciplined officers,” he said.

He reminded them that their behaviour, both in uniform and without uniform, reflects on the institution they serve.

“Professionalism does not end when you leave the workplace.

“Whether in uniform or civilian clothes, you remain an ambassador of ZPCS,” he said.

Comm Chihobvu also addressed the issue of substance abuse, linking it to serious consequences such as gender-based violence and marriage breakdowns.

“Substance abuse compromises judgment, productivity, and career progression,” he said.

“Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.”

He urged married officers to view their spouses as partners rather than subordinates.

“Your home should be a place of peace, not fear.

“Good marriages don’t just happen, they are built through hard work.

“Shield your spouse with prayer and surround your marriage with supportive friends.

“As male officers, you are professionals, leaders, husbands, fathers, brothers, and community members.

“Supporting your well being strengthens your families, the Service, and society at large.

“An officer who cannot manage his temper at home cannot be trusted to enforce discipline at work. True strength lies in patience and dialogue.”

Comm-Gen Chihobvu urged his officers to engage openly and respectfully during the forum.

The meeting was facilitated by ZPCS’s Gender Services section.
