A property manager has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly embezzling US$30 000 in rental payments that were meant to be submitted to the property owner.

Tatenda Nyamuturira appeared before Harare magistrate, Ms Ruth Moyo, facing charges of fraud.

He was granted bail of US$200 and remanded to January 27 for routine remand.

According to the prosecutor, Lawrence Gangarahwe, the alleged fraud took place between January 2025 and December 2025. During this period, Nyamuturira and his accomplice, Aldrich Muchipisi, who is still at large, were employed as property managers responsible for overseeing Varsity Heights in Chinhoyi.

The property is owned by the complainant and was being rented by students from the Chinhoyi University of Technology.

Nyamuturira and Muchipisi are accused of collecting rental payments from the students but failing to deposit the funds into the designated ZB Bank account as instructed.

Instead, they allegedly diverted the money for personal use.

The fraud was discovered during an internal audit conducted by the complainant.

Using monthly schedules compiled by Nyamuturira and his accomplice, the complainant cross-checked the number of students who had paid against the amount of money collected.

It was further revealed that Nyamuturira and Muchipisi had directed sub-wardens to deposit rental payments into their personal EcoCash accounts, bypassing the company’s official bank accounts.

The complainant subsequently filed a police report at ZRP Harare Central.

The total amount of money allegedly stolen is US$30 000 and none of it has been recovered to date.
