THERE was a festive mood in Goromonzi district today as Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) handed out food hampers to vulnerable households and individuals.
The event was held at PLZ grounds in Goromonzi. Those who benefitted were people living with disabilities as well as the elderly.
PLZ Environment Social Governance director Mr Yu Long said they feel excited to play a part in uplifting communities.
“Today, Prospect Lithium Zimbabwe (PLZ) is humbled to celebrate this spirit of togetherness with the people of Goromonzi as we present food hampers to our elderly and to persons living with disabilities,” he said.
“Christmas reminds us that compassion is not just a gesture, it is a responsibility. As PLZ, we firmly believe that progress is meaningful only when it uplifts the communities around us.
“Our presence here in Goromonzi is not just about mining lithium; it is about building relationships, supporting local families, and ensuring that no one is left behind.
“We are especially mindful that just a few days ago, the world commemorated International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities, whose theme for 2025 is “Fostering Disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress”. This day encourages us to reflect deeply on inclusion, dignity, and equal opportunity for persons living with disabilities. PLZ stands committed to these values.
“To our elders here today: you are the foundation of this community. Your wisdom, your sacrifices, and your continued guidance inspire us all. This small gesture is our way of thanking you, of letting you know that you are seen, valued, and appreciated.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Chipo Ngirazi, said the gesture had come at an opportune time.
“This was unexpected. What PLZ has done is commendable. I have children that I am taking care of at home and sometimes I run out of ideas on how to feed them. So this will go a long way and I am thankful to the organisation,” she said.
Another beneficiaryMr Peter Dhisendi said PLZ is doing a lot of programmes which are benefiting Goromonzi communities.
“PLZ is always giving back to the community. This is not the first time to get assistance from the organisation,” he said.
“They are a blessing to us. It is not only food that they give us, but they are also employing our children and they do a lot of programmes that benefit our community and Mashonaland East as a province.”
