PREMIER Services Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) has rolled out a nationwide wellness week aimed at promoting preventive healthcare through free vital health screenings and cancer checks for its members.
The programme, which started on Monday and runs until Friday, is targeting PSMAS members across the country. It offers services including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar testing, body mass index (BMI) assessments, as well as cervical and prostate cancer screening.
Speaking in Bulawayo, PSMAS branch manager Ms Nothando Moyo said the initiative forms part of the medical aid society’s broader strategy to encourage early disease detection and promote healthy living among its members.
“This week we are running a wellness programme for PSMAS members as a way of encouraging them to come in for routine checks of their vital signs and cancer screening. The aim is to promote wellness and healthy lifestyles within our membership and the wider community,” Ms Moyo said.
She added that the services are being offered at no additional cost, removing financial barriers that often discourage people from accessing preventive healthcare.
“There are no shortfalls attached to this programme. Members simply walk in with their medical aid cards and access all the services,” she said.
PSMAS members who have already accessed the services described the initiative as timely and cost-saving.
Mr John Banzi, a PSMAS subscriber, praised the society for bringing healthcare services closer to members.
“It is a very good programme. When services are brought closer to us, it saves time and money. One gets screened and even medication without paying extra, which is usually a challenge at public hospitals,” he said.
Health experts have consistently emphasised the importance of routine screening in preventing complications linked to lifestyle diseases and cancer, with early detection remaining a key pillar of effective healthcare systems.
