A man woke up to a nightmare on Monday morning after discovering the lifeless body of his wife lying near a house in the neighbourhood of Old Pumula in Bulawayo, just hours after she had gone out for drinks.
The woman, identified as Sibonile Beval Ngwenya (34), of Old Pumula, was reportedly drinking beer at a local sports bar on Sunday night before she failed to return home.
Acting Bulawayo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, said the tragic discovery was made early the following morning when a neighbour alerted the deceased’s husband about a body lying nearby.
“At around 6:30AM on 11 November 2025, the husband was informed by a neighbour that there was a body near a certain house which looked like that of his wife. They proceeded to the scene and upon arrival, he positively identified the deceased as his wife,” said Assistant Inspector Ndlovu.
Police who attended the scene found broken beer bottles scattered on the ground, signs of a struggle, and several cuts all over the body of the deceased.
The body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a post-mortem.
Assistant Inspector Ndlovu said investigations were underway and appealed for information that could assist in locating the suspect.
“We are appealing to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused person to come forward and report at any nearest police station or contact ZRP Pumula on (02922) 422907,” she said.
She also urged members of the public to exercise restraint when resolving disputes.
“We encourage people to solve their differences amicably and desist from acts of violence,” said Assistant Inspector Ndlovu.
