THE country’s highways just got a serious festive season upgrade as police boss Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba rolled out a rebranded ZRP National Highway Patrol team armed with five mean Double Cab Ford Ranger beasts.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi told B-Metro that the new squad is hitting the tar with gadgets that would make action movie cops jealous.
In a statement, he said the Commissioner General had “launched a rebranded ZRP National Highway Patrol team with the release of five high powered Double Cab Ford Ranger vehicles on the roads to police the country during the festive season and beyond.”
To top it all up, these highway hunters will be recording every move.
“The vehicles drivers and assistants will be also having body worn cameras on them as part of electronic traffic management system on the roads,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
That means anyone trying funny stunts on the road will now be caught crystal clear on camera.
The police are urging the public to take full advantage of the new patrol muscle.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges the public to report any unruly and dangerous driving conduct on the roads by motorists to the team for swift action,” Nyathi said.
He said motorists and passengers should not hesitate to approach the shiny new Rangers.
“Please make use of these new National Highway Patrol vehicles to make reports once you come across the teams on the roads.”
With Ford Rangers roaring, body cams blinking and officers on high alert, the ZRP says reckless drivers will have nowhere to hide this holiday.
