A BULAWAYO man has been locked away for 48 years after breaking into an elderly woman’s home and raping her.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the conviction of Gift Ncube (21) of Douglasdale Bulawayo.
Ncube was arrested on 15 February in Hope Fountain following a horrific attack that happened a day earlier in the same area. Police investigations revealed that the accused unlawfully entered the bedroom of an 83 year old woman late at night and raped her three times.
Ncube was dragged before the courts and slapped with a massive 48 year prison sentence.
Insp Msebele said the stiff sentence sends a loud and clear warning to would be offenders that crime does not pay. She said the judgement underlines the gravity of sexual violence and confirms it will not be tolerated in society.
