ENGLAND-BASED rapper DC3, whose real name is Daniel Chenjerai, has made history as the first Zimbabwean artist to perform on COLORS Studio.
After making waves with his viral mixtapes and clips across social media platforms, DC3 landed on the world-renowned COLORS Studio with his track “Bake Off.”
The 18-year-old said his roots and gospel upbringing shaped his unique, razor-sharp delivery.
“This is a really huge moment for me. Those who know me know I grew up on audiomack for so long, even till now, being on the cover for these playlists is all by God’s grace.
“I grew up listening to music from back home, where my parents are from.
“Religion is so important in our family, so that was the main kind of music we all connected to.”
Driven to express his faith and purpose in an authentic manner, while fueled by his Christian roots, his sound mixes influences from gospel, hip-hop and jazz.
“When I think about God’s work, I know I’ll never be satisfied. I feel like just hearing something positive and someone changing something in their life based on what they’ve heard.
“I wouldn’t want my music to be all about me, I want it just to go to God like I want people to see my music, but not see me, but see God in it.
“I feel like that’s the end goal.
“ I feel like the only thing I find peace in is, at least, knowing that someone is making a positive change based on how God inspired me to do my music. I think that’s what it is,” he said in an interview with Mixtape Madness.
DC3 added:
“I feel because I’m so hungry, it’s just music, man. Everything I watch. If I’m watching videos online it’s usually about music, or I’m listening to type beats.
“If I’m doing my work, I’m listening to music. I’m just surrounding myself with music.”
DC3 is known for his versatility and razor-sharp wordplay and has already caught the attention of Christian Hip Hop heavyweights like Lecrae and Limoblaze, with whom he’s recently collaborated.
DC3 said the best artist that captures his musical taste is Kendrick Lamar.
“Kendrick Lamar is number one, I listen to him the most. Then Little Simz and J. Cole. Those three have given me the most in terms of writing, how I approach music, even down to how I hear sounds.”
DC3, has released several impactful songs, including “Bake Off,” “UPSTAIRS,” “Be Yourself,” and “Billie Jean Freestyle”.
His music focuses on faith-driven lyrics and positive messages, with recent work featured on BBC Radio 1Xtra.
