The Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) is hosting the 2025 Global Research Council (GRC) Sub-Saharan Africa Regional and Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) Academic Symposium.

The symposium, being held in Bulawayo, is expected to contribute directly to advancing the GRC’s strategic priorities, catalysing cross-regional partnerships, and amplifying the visibility of African research leadership.
The Symposium is being co-hosted by the Research Council of Zimbabwe (RCZ) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa, bringing together research funders, policymakers, and scholars across Africa and beyond.

According to RCZ executive director Dr Partson Chikudza, the event will also provide a unique platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the advancement of Africa’s role in global research governance.

“The combined meetings seek to strengthen linkages between research policy and practice by fostering dialogue among research funders, policymakers, and researchers across Africa. We also hope to advance inclusive and equitable approaches to Open Science and sustainability, aligning African research priorities with global goals.
