Region 5 announce 12 sport codes for the next Youth Games

THE African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 has announced 12 sport codes for the next edition of the Youth Games to be hosted by Mozambique next year.

The regional Games are due to take place from December 4 to 13 in Maputo, Mozambique.

The sport codes are; athletics (including wheelchair racing, athletics for visually impaired athletes in T11 – T13 categories and Special Olympics), basketball (including 3×3), boxing, football, judo (including Refugees), karate, netball, swimming (including para-swimming in S8-S10 categories), table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball (including beach volleyball).

The Region 5 Youth Games are a cornerstone for sports development in Southern Africa, featuring athletes under the age of 20 years from the 10-member countries – Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The previous edition of the Games was held in Namibia, in July.
