CHINHOYI – ZANU PF First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, yesterday officially opened the 23rd ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference at the Chinhoyi University of Technology, rallying the party to accelerate economic growth and deliver tangible results for the populace.
Delivering his keynote address to thousands of delegates, President Mnangagwa reminded the party of its constitutional mandate, noting that the annual gathering is a vital mechanism for accountability, strategic planning, and rigorous oversight.
“In terms of the National People’s Conference as provided for in Article 6, Section 34, Subsections 1 to 5, it accords us an onerous obligation not only to receive reports on behalf of Congress, but also to adopt new resolutions as well as review, evaluate and supervise their implementation,” he said.
This year’s conference is running under the theme: “From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Economic Empowerment Towards Vision 2030.”
The President challenged delegates to ensure that the deliberations translate into practical benefits for ordinary Zimbabweans.
“This year’s theme, ‘From Resolutions to Results: Consolidating Economic Development and Deepening Economic Empowerment Towards Vision 2030’, is therefore a clarion call for concrete action and for resolutions that will positively impact the lives of our people towards Vision 2030.”
Reflecting on the milestones achieved by the Second Republic over the past year, the Head of State and Government expressed immense pride in the rapid modernisation of the country’s infrastructure, agricultural transformation and industrial growth. He described the ongoing developmental trajectory as historic and unstoppable.
“As we look back at events, programmes and projects undertaken by the Party and Government over the year, the results tell of successes of colossal magnitude, modern and futuristic, and on a positive trajectory,” he said.
Turning to internal party dynamics, the First Secretary commended the high level of discipline, organisational efficiency, and unity within the revolutionary party’s ranks. He commended the leadership across all levels for ensuring the party remains the dominant and most organised political force in the country.
“Congratulations to Party structures and functionaries. The state of the Party is on a sound footing. Party unity is invaluable, while prevailing peace and stability in the country is enabling business and community activities to thrive,” said President Mnangagwa.
The President also noted that the culture of production and development has successfully permeated the grassroots, transforming lower-level structures into active drivers of the national development agenda.
“Statutory meetings are now being convened efficiently as provided for in the Constitution. The content and conduct of meetings have effectively improved, with the generality of provincial and district structures now focusing on social and economic development at those levels.”
