A 43-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly repeatedly raping his 15-year-old neighbour’s granddaughter.
Nqobizitha Nkiwane appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of rape.
He was remanded in custody to March 3.
Prosecuting, Ms Mandrela Chisiiwa told the court the ordeal began in December 2024 when Nkiwane visited the complainant’s home at around 8PM and asked for her grandmother, who was not home.
The accused allegedly forced his way into the kitchen, ordering the girl’s two young siblings, aged three and five years to leave.
Ms Chisiiwa said Nkiwane then pushed the complainant to the floor, covered her mouth, removed her clothes and allegedly raped her.
The following day at about 2PM, Nkiwane lured the girl to his field, where he again raped her.
He allegedly continued the sexual assaults on multiple occasions, exploiting times when the grandmother was away.
The complainant reported the rapes to her grandmother, who did not report them to the police.
On February 17, this year, the grandmother reported the rapes to the girl’s mother who subsequently made a police report, leading to Nkiwane’s arrest.
The complainant was referred to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical examination.
