Police in Gokwe have launched a manhunt for four men who allegedly hacked a villager to death in a savage revenge attack.
Blessed Gwinya, Loyal Mpofu, Wuzu Moyo and Munashe Makore are on the run after they allegedly killed Nelson Silemba (47) of Fandwana Village last Saturday.
According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the quartet ambushed Silemba and attacked him with machetes, axes and knives, leaving him for dead.
“They accused the victim of being responsible for their conviction and the fining of two cattle at the chief’s court over an earlier assault case in which one of them had cut the victim’s finger,” he said.
The gruesome killing has sent shockwaves through Fandwana Village, where villagers are now living in fear.
Police have urged anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to report at the nearest police station.
Comm Nyathi said:
“We appeal to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of these suspects to come forward. Such acts of revenge have no place in our communities.
The four fugitives are believed to be hiding in nearby villages or bushy areas.
Anyone who spots them,Comm Nyathi said, should not approach but immediately alert the police.
