Revenge robbery goes wrong as man snatches ‘wrong woman’s purse’

A 44-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man tried to settle an old score but ended up in handcuffs after allegedly snatching the wrong woman’s purse.

Prince Makokotoko appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Vimbai Chirai facing a theft charge. He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to today.

The court heard that on 27 January at around 5pm along Sixth Avenue, Makokotoko allegedly grabbed a handbag from Catherine Ncube and took off like an Olympic sprinter.

Inside the bag was US$100.

Unfortunately for him, Ncube did not freeze in shock. She quickly reported the matter to the police, leading to his swift arrest.

When asked why he did it, Makokotoko delivered a plot twist worthy of a soapie.
He told the court he thought Ncube was another woman who had once robbed him of US$50 at a Chicken Inn outlet.

According to him, he believed he was reclaiming his money and teaching the “culprit” a lesson.
But there was just one small problem. Wrong target.

Instead of sweet revenge, he landed himself a theft charge.
Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court the stolen US$100 was not recovered.
