UP-AND-COMING Afro-soul singer Xantel received strong backing during the launch of her debut EP Usizo, with five top bidders pushing the auction to US$1 800.
The bidding for the album started at US$10 and steadily climbed, with each bidder guaranteed a copy regardless of the amount pledged. To the singer’s surprise, fans showed overwhelming support, offering far more than expected.
The EP launch, held before a packed audience on Friday, saw supporters rally behind the rising artiste as she officially introduced her Afro-soul sound to the public.
One of the night’s highlights came when Sithatshisiwe Vuma emerged as the second-highest bidder after purchasing a copy of the EP for US$580. She said her decision was driven by the need for women to support each other’s ambitions.
“I decided to bid US$580 for Xantel’s album because women need to support and uplift each other. When one woman rises, she opens doors for others. This is about empowering women in music and showing that we believe in their talent and dreams,” she said.
Another supporter, Bhila, also applauded the gesture, describing it as inspiring to see young women backing each other.
“What I loved most was seeing a young woman supporting another woman’s hustle. Big up to all the ladies uplifting each other,” said Bhila.
The moment became one of the evening’s most talked-about highlights.
