A NIGHT of fine wine and good vibes at Smoke and Vine in Bulawayo, has turned into a storm after a rugby ball went missing, sparking outrage from management and patrons alike.
The ball, which was meant for guests’ entertainment, vanished sometime after 10pm on Saturday, leaving the popular hangout spot fuming over what many thought was a “small” item.
“We want to make it clear that all individuals who engaged with the ball during the day into the evening were captured on our CCTV system,” said Smoke and Vine management in a hard-hitting statement. “We are giving an opportunity for the ball to be returned immediately and discreetly. Should it not be returned, we will have no choice but to escalate the matter to the police.”
The disappearance has been met with a mixture of laughter and outrage online, with some joking that “maybe someone thought it was part of the takeaway menu,” while others blasted the act as petty theft that tarnishes the venue’s reputation.
The establishment insisted that while Smoke and Vine is about fun, food and relaxation, respect must come first.
“We value the community we have built here,” added management. “This is a space for good vibes, but we also believe in accountability and respect for shared property.”
For now, the hunt for the “most wanted rugby ball” continues, and the thief has until the whistle blows to return it before police step onto the field.
