Ruwa Local Board has reminded residents that dumping of litter in open spaces is an offence that is punishable by law.

In a statement, Ruwa Local Board public relations officer Josephine Mwaitirwa said illegal dumping not only damages the environment but also brings about health hazards for the entire community.

“It has come to our attention that some residents are dumping litter in open spaces instead of using the designated refuse collection services,” read the statement.

“As council, we are collecting refuse every week, yet some individuals continue to dispose of waste illegally in undesignated areas.

“We therefore urge all residents to report anyone found disposing of litter in undesignated areas.

“By working together, we can keep our community clean, safe and healthy for everyone.”
