A BULAWAYO sales manager has appeared in court for allegedly defrauding her employer of US$7 000 through a fake receipt scheme involving cellphone sales.

Rhoda Tariro Mukurakudya of Mzilikazi suburb, who is employed as a sales manager at T Mobile Trading Company, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Challenge Mahembe facing charges of theft of trust property.
She was represented by Mr Nkosiyenzile Mpofu, while Mr Tinashe Runganga of Tanaka Law Chambers appeared on behalf of T Mobile Trading Company.

Mukurakudya was remanded out of custody to November 4.

Prosecuting, Mr Joseph Rugara told the court that Mukurakudya allegedly created and used her own counterfeit receipt book to record sales transactions and issue customers with fake receipts, diverting the proceeds for her personal use.

Between July 27 and August 17, she allegedly carried out the scam while also serving as a team leader, according to court papers.

A company stock take conducted last week reportedly uncovered discrepancies amounting to US$7 013 worth of missing cellphones. The matter was reported to the police, leading to her arrest.
