School head suspended for abuse of office

A School head at Emthonjeni Primary School in Kwekwe has been suspended on allegations of abuse of office and embezzling funds, among other charges.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has since written to Mr Edward Mwale notifying him of the suspension after they received a letter of complaint from parents.

The ministry has also dispatched an audit team to carry out investigations at the school. According to the suspension letter seen by The Herald, Mr Mwale is facing 15 allegations ranging from theft of school funds and resources as well as abuse of office.

“Accordingly, as provided for in Section 48(1) of the Public Service Regulations of 2000 as amended, you Edward Sasowa Mwale, is suspended from service with effect from 31 July 2019 to 28 October 2019. The reasons for this order is that your continued performance of duties or services would seriously impair the proper administration or functioning of the school,” read part of the suspension letter.

“As specified in Section 48 (4) of the above regulations, you may not leave Zimbabwe without my permission and shall inform me of any change of contact address.”
