South African Amapiano superstar Scotts Maphuma, brought his infectious Sya’Waver vibes to Gwanda’s Phoenix Shisanyama in the wee hours of Sunday, delivering a high-energy performance that had the crowd “wavelencing” in delight.
Performing at the Amapiano Music Festival, the South African star left a lasting impression on fans in the mining town, who turned out in droves to experience his electrifying live performance, a perfect teaser for the festive season.
The show kicked off with local acts from Gwanda and Bulawayo performing as the audience steadily filled the venue. Kadder and Khoikhoi opened with a well-choreographed duo, putting their love story on full display for the crowd. Bhila and Kay_Kid Unfanomsotho, having travelled 120km from Bulawayo, brought the energy with their performance of the hit track Emaweni, which has become a national anthem at live shows.
Freddy K kept the excitement building, electrifying the crowd with his chant “Asamb’eGwanda Vibes”, setting the stage ablaze for Scotts Maphuma’s anticipated showcase. Mzoe 7 added his flair as the evening’s host, while Zagoe Radge’s performance of Dlozi Lami Vuma saw fans joining him on stage. Blvck Operator’s expert mixing ensured a seamless flow throughout the night, allowing each artiste to shine.
At 2:40am, Scotts Maphuma took to the stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Hype man Rich Flavour whipped the audience into a roar, shouting, “Are you ready for Scotts Maphuma?” Seconds later, the Amapiano star’s unmistakable voice boomed through the speakers, and he launched into his hit single,“Sya’Waver”. Fans surged forward, eager to get closer to their idol.
Scotts brought his signature dance moves to life, replicating the high-octane steps fans had been following on social media. Dressed in Panstula-inspired attire, he commanded the stage with presence, leaving the packed venue captivated. The multi-talented star then transitioned behind the decks to showcase his impressive DJ skills, keeping the crowd moving with infectious beats. He effortlessly combined vocals and DJing, proving his versatility and leaving fans in awe.
Expressing gratitude to the Gwanda audience after his performance, Scotts said the reception was unforgettable.
Bhila, on the other hand, said: “I was overwhelmed with joy seeing the warm reception from the Gwanda people. Singing Emaweni with them was an incredible experience, filled with love and connection. It reinforced my bond with the community, especially knowing my roots are tied to this beautiful land. I’m grateful for the love and appreciation.”
Khoi Khoi added: “We’re thrilled to have reconnected with our fans after a while and are grateful to Shisanyama management for entrusting us with the opportunity to entertain the crowd at the highly anticipated Amapiano Music Fest.”
